The high level meeting on cooperation for tourism development of three central coastal provinces (Thua Thien – Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam) took place in Hue City on February 27, 2014.

The meeting was presided by Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism with technical support from the Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Programme (ESRT Program, funded by the European Union).

The meeting focused on discussing responsible tourism development in Viet Nam based on environmental and social principles. This is an opportunity for tourism businesses to define responsible objectives which don’t affect vulnerable environment, as well as integrity of the culture.

Speaking at the meeting, Director General of VNAT Nguyen Van Tuan said the three central coastal provinces have been identified as key area for tourism development of the country in Strategy and Master plan for Viet Nam tourism development until 2020 and vision to 2030. Linking for tourism development among Thua Thien – Hue, Da Nang and Quang Nam will be one of the best examples of interprovincial destination management model and aims to ensure sustainable development principles.

In 2014, ESRT Program will prioritize establishing consultative forum for destination management. In addition, many activities are also supported by ESRT Program, including tourist demand survey, development of responsible tourism products, research on establishing tourism brand, promotion of regional tourism, tourism human resource development.

According to ESRT Program, the three provinces have to strengthen the initiative and commitment in implementing activities to cooperate successfully.

At the end of the meeting, the three provinces have signed a memorandum of cooperation for tourism development, which contributes to boosting sustainable tourism development.
