It is the result of a long cooperative process of departments in Binh Dinh province and the  Japanese partner and support of Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association in Sakai (Japan).

According to the agreement, Kato Office is the legal representative of BIDIFISCO in Japan to bring ocean tuna to the auction centres and seafood stall chain of Kato Office’s partners there. BIDIFISCO takes responsibility of consuming tune caught in line with Japanese technology with price 20% higher than market.

Before that, in order to boost ocean tuna catching in Binh Dinh, based on the cooperation relationshop between Binh Dinh province and Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association in Sakai, two parties agreed upon supporting the construction and started a pilot model of catching, procuring and exporting tuna to Japan. In order to implement this project, at the beginning of January 2014, Binh Dinh PPC sent two officers to Japan for training on catching and preservation technology under the guidance of Kato office’s specialist.

The PPC assisted setting up a new model and procuring 05 sets of main equipment (costing VND 1.3 billion) for 05 pilot fishing boats. In addition, these boats also got support for upgrading storage system with the expense of VND 150 million.

According to the report of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the pilot model has made two trips, the first trip was in June to July 2014 and the second trip started in July and returned on 5thAugust.

On 5th August, 03 out of 05 fishing boats with the pilot model returned Quy Nhon port on schedule with 54 tunas. It was the end of the tuna season of the year, so the output was lower then before.

Under examination of Japanese specialists, 09 tuna satisfying the quality criteria with toal weight of 448kg was packed and on the afternoon of 6th August, the first tuna package was transported to Japan by air and on the morning of 8th August, it is sold in Japan’s market.

Once Binh Dinh’s tuna is accepted in Japan’s market, it is definitely a delightful sign for Binh Dinh province itself and the whole nation in general.
